The Adolf-Reichwein-Campus of the University of SiegenThe University of Siegen, founded in 1972, is a young, modern, mid-sized institution of higher education located about 80 km east of Cologne in Germany. Around 19,000 students were enrolled in the winter term 2019/2020. Guided by the central principle “Shaping a Humane Future”, education and research are the core tasks of the university, performed by over 250 professors and more than 1,100 scientific employees who are supported by around 790 administrative staff. As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer the University of Siegen focuses its human resource activities for researchers within the framework of the European Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R), including the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. In 2017 the HR Excellence Research label has been received from the European Commission. The University of Siegen mainly consists of 5 highly interdisciplinary faculties covering a wide range of scientific areas including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, technology, healthcare, and wellbeing.

Faculty I at the University of Siegen offers a wide range of research activities in the fields of language and media studies, literature, cultural studies and history, social sciences, theologies and philosophy. Researchers are involved in international communities and research networks demonstrating their research achievements, among other things, through nationally and internationally visible publications, conference contributions and the organisation of meetings, the supervision of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, activities as reviewers and advisors, and the development, acquisition and supervision of third-party funded research projects. Faculty II pursues its research goal "Shaping Community” by adopting a broader perspective on the overall topic “inclusion”. Within this main research focus, the subjects represented in the faculty are taking on a multi-perspective look at the topic. Thus, including spatial and cultural perspectives such as cultural education, remedial education, (socio-)spatial strategies, etc. Furthermore, the transfer and communication of knowledge of Faculty II is of particular importance and includes numerous exhibitions, concerts, lectures and conferences. Logo Faculty 3Faculty III (School of Economic Disciplines)

Faculty III combines the fields of Economics, Business Information Technology and Business Law at the University of Siegen and is particularly committed to the central principle “Shaping a Humane Future” through its activities and thematic orientation. Understanding and designing modern economic processes requires close cooperation between the business sciences and business informatics, business law and business didactics. The faculty takes this into account through a variety of joint research projects and interdisciplinary teaching. This also includes close cooperation with related subjects such as social and media sciences, mathematics, computer science and technical sciences. Faculty IV accounts the highest annual third party funding of all faculties at the University of Siegen. A wide range of research activities are carried out in the eight sub-disciplines of biology, civil engineering, chemistry, electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, mathematics and physics. It offers excellent research infrastructures such as well-equipped laboratories, equipment centres etc. and enjoys an excellent international reputation, particularly in the fields of sensor technology (including chemical sensor technology), material sciences and resource-saving systems including automotive engineering, but also in the fields of particle and astroparticle physics. Faculty V, founded in July 2017, is the youngest of the five faculties. It provides the environment for future-oriented courses of study in medical and medical-related subjects at the University of Siegen. The establishment of the new faculty, and the teaching and research very close to people and for people, is once again a consistent decision to implement the guiding principle “Shaping a Humane Future” with which the University of Siegen commits itself to develop new knowledge and combine it with valid findings in order to make it available to the public and especially to the regional community. One goal of the new life sciences faculty is to make a significant contribution to the supply and quality of life in the region. Supporting Services

STAR Programme Administration
The first point of contact is the STAR-project manager, who is available to answer all administrative questions and help with arising problems of applicants and fellows. You can also contact the project manager if you need guidance or help on issues related to your application, the contracting procedure, or any administrative questions coming up during your research project. She will act as mediator if needed and will establish contact with the Supervisory Board or other experts in the University of Siegen administration if necessary (e.g., Human Resources, Legal Department, Patent Scouts).

The House of Young Talents (HYT) is the universities interdisciplinary postgraduate career centre providing comprehensive support to junior academics. The career advisors of the HYT will organize and coordinate transferable skills training activities, based on the individual needs of each researcher.
